Arch top guitar

Made from German spruce and maple, this instrument is trimmed in ebony. Volume control is on the tailpiece and since the client wanted to see both soundholes, I made the pickguard out of glass.

 two mystery pacifics

Art Deco Mystery Pacific

This Mystery Pacific has a cedar soundboard and ironwood back and sides. The inlaid pattern on the back is modified from a 1920s Dutch art deco cigarette case. It is composed of ebony and boxwood lines with a slightly raised purpleheart squiggle.  The small brown square is made from a piece of larch dug out of a river bed and has been carbon dated at 45000 years old!

The Mystery Pacific 2002

This mystery pacific is in essence an all yellow and black guitar. the soundboard is Port Orford cedar, the back and sides are of brszilian satinwood , the neck and head are of Alaska cypress. All the black parts are of Ebony. Note the tapered purfling of the back , the tapered rosette, and the asymetrical heel. A black anodized tailpiece and multi-wooded bridge and tailblock match the cypress and ebony reflector.

Fleche Dor with red hardware

This Fleche Dor is built with the back and sides in Mediterranean cypress and trimmed with ebony. The red Sperzel machine heads have been matched by the red rosette and an anodized aluminum tailpiece, also in red.

Late 18th century baroque guitar.

This baroque guitar, apart from the soundboard, is made entirely from holly and ebony. Is is based on the designs of the Voboam family from France. The rosette is in several layers and is made of parchment paper and very thin cardstock. It has 5 double gut strings and gut frets tied around the neck.  It was built about 25 years ago when I was younger and crazier.......

Knutsen style harp-uke

This harp-uke, I made for my wife at Christmas. The back and sides are African blackwood. The purfling around the soundboard is made from with alternating bone and ebony pieces.

Satinwood Belleville

This Belleville has the back and sides of satinwood with a Douglas fir soundboard. The rosette, tailpiece block, and headplate are of French ivory. The purfling is from holly and ebony. It is a 9/10 size guitar.
